Strong color, shapes and lines are what dictate this vibrant body of work.
I mix cold wax with oil paint to produce a colorful mixture that has the consistency of frosting. Super luscious! I apply it with a combination of paint pushers, baking utensils and a brush here and there to assemble thick texture. Bits of underpainting and mark making peek out from below and more are added at the very end of the process (the jewelry)!
Each painting is meant to bring joy!
The west is imbedded deeply in my soul - just like photography and painting. This body of work honors all three - in one!
Each of the paintings is created by adding and removing numerous layers of paint and scratching back into each layer to prove a sense of roughness. They all tell a story through the layers and provide a bit of whimsy along the way.
Enjoy!
Although I've always been in awe of the beauty of flowers, I've also been terrified to try and paint them. Until, I got out of my head and starting painting with my heart: trying to be bold and ease into the process without judgement (at least in the few first layers).
I call these whimsical Bodacious Blooms my Not So Still Lives and I hope they bring you joy!
Creating paintings with cold wax and oil is like sculpting with paint. It's a true dance of adding and removing. Part of the joy is in discovering what's underneath as little surprises and gifts appear. It's like opening gifts on Christmas morning! Enjoy!
